State Park’s first new trail in decades — a six-mile path for horses and hikers — will open with a ceremony at 10 a.m. on Nov. 8.

An old-fashioned barn dance will be held Saturday at Gurnee’s Fields and Fences to benefit a non-profit organization which treats disabled children and adults with therapeutic horseback riding.

Horseback riding and therapy may seem a little unusual, but Southern Tier Alternative Therapies uses equestrian methods to help patients. Today the organization held a chicken and rib barbecue to help raise money for their riding connection program. organizers hope to raise about one thousand dollars–and want to look into providing other therapies involving painting, swimming and more. stat …
